Departmental Overview

The Retirement Center is seeking to hire a new Program Manager (PP2A) to provide program coordination in developing a brand new Emeriti Academy. The successful candidate should be a flexible and detail-oriented self-starter; have a strong work ethic and customer service orientation, possess strong organizational skills, and enjoy working in a creative environment with retired faculty and students.

The Emeriti Academy is a unique opportunity to work with retired faculty who remain committed to helping further research, teaching and mentoring to students. Projects include leading small (i.e. accomplished within the semester or year) research projects with other emeriit and/or students, teaching Freshman/Sophomore Seminars, and organizing seminars and panel presentations on topics critical to campus and the community. The coordinator will work with the Programming Board (of a small group of engaged emerii) to support the logistics and coordination of these new projects. This includes taking the lead on coordinating and managing their meetings, assembling background information for meetings, managing, recording and editing video presentations, and providing first-rate communications, administrative, and analytical support while maintaining a high level of political acumen and responsiveness. The Program Coordinator works directly with the Retirement Center Director and works collaboratively with the Retirement Center Associate Director and student assistants.

This new Emeriti Academy, is a partnership between the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, managed by the Retirement Center and led by a working Programming Board of retired faculty. The aim of the Academy is to engage retired faculty and those considering retirement in projects that help our students, disciplines, campus, and community.

The UC Berkeley Retirement Center (https://retirement.berkeley.edu) serves retirees of UC Berkeley, LBNL and UCOP and is dedicated to helping them live well in retirement. The Retirement Center goals include:

Bringing together the skills, intellect and creativity of retirees to solve challenges and create opportunities.
Connecting staff, faculty and scientists with resources and tools to help with a smooth transition in retirement.
Promoting activities that nourish the intellectual engagement and well-being of retirees.
Raising awareness of retirement tools, programs, services and the accomplishments of retirees.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination:
  • Coordinates processes for multiple projects between emeriti and students; manages registration and logistics for events; schedules meetings, helps with inviting speakers; provides note taking and arrangements for board meetings; assures compliance with campus policies.

Marketing, Promotion:
  • Develops new website using the Open Berkeley platform (drupal); organizes material on the website to be engaging and easy to navigate; provides regular updates; \
  • Uses iContact (similar to Constant Contact, Mail Chimp) to develop graphic emails for promotion of Emerit Academy.

Program Development:
  • Gathers information to assist with development of programs, particularly related to campus compliance; assists with development of surveys and questionnaires using Qualtrics (similar to Survey Monkey).
  • Records and edits video interviews, edits transcripts.
  • Using subject matter knowledge of issues related to the faculty experience to collect and prepare information for use in discussions and meetings.

Program Evaluation:
  • Applies professional concepts to perform analysis of Emeriti Academy processes and policies.
  • Provides ongoing analysis of the data and systems established for the Emeriti Academy to assure compliance with campus policies.
  • Prepare reports and presentations and work with a team for input and edits to incorporate into a final product.

Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs, including Bearbuy, Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Qualtrics and Survey Monkey, Doodle, Adobe InDesign, Open Berkeley Website Platform (Drupal), Zoom, YouTube, iMovie; or ability to quickly learn.
  • Working knowledge of evaluation design and survey development.
  • Familiarization with planning and development of programs with faculty and students
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid ability to multi-task with demanding time-frames.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

Education/Training:
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in public health or gerontology and/or equivalent experience/training a plus.

Salary & Benefits

Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $24.14 - $28.26.
