Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:

• Faculty will work in various aspects of the public health undergraduate and graduate programs. Faculty maintains excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the department and university. A sustained research agenda with a focused emphasis on grant writing and peer-reviewed publications in appropriate journals will be expected. Teach courses in epidemiology, bio statistics, and public health foundation.
• Faculty provide service to enhance the professional attributes of students (many are first generation).
• SHSU will pursue the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation of its BS degree in Public Health; faculty assist in maintaining and ensuring compliance with CEPH standards, guidelines, and assessments.
• Other duties performed as requested.

Educational Requirements for the Position:

Earned doctorate required, preferably in Public Health. Doctorates in related disciplines from an accredited university also considered (e.g., Healthcare Administration, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Sciences).

Experience Required for the Position:

Professional experience in public health field or health management and instructional expertise in institutions of higher education preferred.

At the rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate should:

Demonstrate a record of high quality university teaching, graduate student mentoring, and peer-reviewed, scholarly productivity that is nationally recognized in the field.

At the rank of Full Professor, the successful candidate should:

Demonstrate effective pedagogy to include contributions to curriculum, participation in course development or revisions, innovative use of technologies or teaching strategies, recognition of teaching expertise in the form of awards and/or honors, and implementation of service-learning coursework.

Document a clearly illustrated research line that is evidenced by consistent publications and presentations in a specific topic; scholarship that covers a wider array of topics can be appropriate. The following indicators can also demonstrate the quality of published scholarship: lead authorship on publications; descriptions of the peer-review process; published reviews of the candidate’s work; journal impact factors; acceptance rates; and number of citations.

Show that the overall composite of the candidate’s scholarly activity is substantial, balanced, and shows promise for continued scholarship.

Demonstrate engagement and leadership in service to the department, college, university, profession, and/or community with a sustained record of service and leadership to the university, profession, and community; and mentoring of junior faculty.
