25-Aug-2020 Close All Job SummaryA Professional Research Assistant position is available in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. Our Behavioral Neuroscience laboratory employs animal models to investigate the role of experiential factors that foster stress resilience and the neural mechanisms that mediate their effects. This position will be responsible for the development and validation of experimental protocols for stress and fear paradigms; organizing and assisting in collaborative efforts; and managing data collection. Studies include viral-based approaches for neural circuit interrogation, such as chemogenetics and fiber photometry. General laboratory responsibilities are also required, such as maintaining equipment and supplies.

Who We AreThe Baratta laboratory consists of newly renovated space in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder, an interdisciplinary program dedicated to understanding the circuit mechanisms of health and disease. Our group applies an integrated experimental approach that focuses on molecular and circuit-level adaptations to challenge, defined broadly as environmental (an adverse event), pharmacological (drugs of abuse), or immunological (an infectious agent). Our laboratory consists of newly renovated space in the Wilderness Place Research Facility that supports methods for mRNA and protein analysis, in vivo microdialysis, high-performance liquid chromatography for measurement of biogenic amines and amino acids, small rodent surgeries, individual suites for behavioral testing, and imaging. What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeThe research will utilize a combination of viral-mediated gene delivery, chemogenetics, small rodent behavioral testing, and tissue labeling methods. The Professional Research Assistant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team formed of current senior research associates, graduate students, and other professional research assistants. Our lab is housed in the Wilderness Place Research Facility at CU Boulder which opened in 2018 to facilitate collaborations between life science researchers to address specific neuroscience challenges in health and disease.What We Can OfferThe annual salary range for this position is competitive and based upon relevant background and experience.Benefits

  • Outstanding communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative team setting.
  • Strong background in biological sciences to apply.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Prior experience in recording techniques, confocal microscopy, rodent behavioral testing, and stereotaxic surgery.
  • Knowledge and experience with Python/MATLAB programming and statistical analysis in R.
