Position Summary

Professional Advisors support the teaching and development of new social work practitioners committed to social justice. This position encompasses supporting MSW students across programs with general academic issues, aspects of degree requirements, and the interpretation and understanding of university resources, policies, and procedures. This will include connecting students to institutional resources as appropriate, while establishing improved intervention systems, efficiencies, and strategies for overall student success. The Professional Advisor will understand and work closely with faculty and other GSSW teams, including Academic Affairs, Registrar, Field Education, and Career Development. The Professional Advisor will update and maintain student records, document pertinent information, and manage student meetings in collaboration with both GSSW and University partners. This position reports to the Manager of Professional Advising, under the umbrella of the GSSW Student Services team.

This position will be working remotely until deemed safe to return to campus.

Essential Functions

Academic Services

  • With the Office of Financial Aid, communicate Satisfactory Academic Progress status and individualized academic plans for students.
  • Support communication strategy for students on academic warning and/or probation.
  • Build and maintain rapport with key stakeholders to advance and participate in a new academic advising model.
  • Support Denver Campus initiatives during peak advising periods.

Student Support

  • Communicate and track student retention concerns, student leaves of absence and re-entry, academic and/or personal struggles, and health and wellness promotion.
  • Connect faculty and staff to resources for student-related concerns and support.
  • Student event planning, including orientation and commencement activities.
  • Support the implementation of student services related policy in collaboration with associate and assistant deans.
  • Point of contact for MSW@Denver to create academic plans, uphold policies and practices related to student matriculation, and provide partnership with 2U staff.

Career Development

  • Maintain knowledge of the LCSW licensure process in Colorado and nationwide.
  • Participate in the coordination of the licensure prep course.
  • Support students in connecting to relevant career services and resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field.
  • 2-3 years experience in higher education or student support setting.
  • Experience tracking and measuring student and/or performance outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSW with 2-3 years of post master's experience.
  • Experience facilitating crisis management for student academic and health-related concerns (emotional, mental, and physical).
  • Experience with CSWE accredited curriculum.
  • Experience with Banner and/or other student information systems.
  • Experience with clinical licensure and/or understanding of licensure processes.
  • Experience with field education and/or graduate internship experiences and processes.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
