    The Chief of Campus Safety is responsible for developing, assessing and refining safety and security procedures and programs, policies, academic and residence hall security, card access control systems, CCTV and other technology monitoring and prevention systems for the university on a 24 hour, 365 days per year basis. The Chief manages various and unpredictable caseload demands, with the ability to direct, coordinate, and review assignments and projects. The Chief of Campus Safety hires, trains, and supervises 24 non-sworn Campus Safety officers; prepares and administers departmental budget; plans and implements security operations, programs, and initiatives in support of the University's mission and vision. The Chief is the direct supervisor of the Assistant Chief of Campus Safety. Additionally, the Chief of Campus Safety, as the Incident Commander for crisis situations, is responsible for reviewing, updating and maintaining a comprehensive crisis management plan and the conduct of exercises with the senior administration to test and refine the plan. The Chief is also responsible for all Clery mandated federal reporting requirements annually, to include the Annual Security and Fire Report and the identification, training and notification of University Campus Security Authority (CSA's) personnel annually. The Chief is responsible for other areas such as: Departmental In-Service training, Parking and Traffic issues, and all security requirements for University sponsored events on campus.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Supervises, trains and hires staff and ensures the proper training levels and certifications for staff are achieved.
    • Leads all efforts related to crisis management planning, operations, and campus activities in the event of an actual crisis
    • Forms and maintains strong and productive relationships with various external civil authorities, with special attention given to the Boca Raton Police and Fire Department liaisons.
    • Liaison with Marketing and Communications staff in crisis situations relative to campus-wide alerts and messaging protocols.
    • Oversees parking registration, enforcement, and appeals.
    • Establishes and maintains departmental budget.
    • Evaluates performance of staff and administers discipline, if necessary.
    • Prepares and reports crime statistics and ensures complete compliance with FERPA, HIPPA, and Clery.
    • Works with Residence Life staff and Dean of Students in the enforcement of University policy.
    • Prepares, reviews and distributes daily morning reports and incident reports.
    • Ensures staff maintains a professional appearance and demeanor within the Campus Safety department at all times.
    • Meets daily with University personnel to discuss all issues relative to the safety and security of the University community.
    • Serves in an on-call capacity to ensure emergencies are adequately addressed.
    • Conduct ongoing departmental assessments of services and programs.
    • Complete monthly and annual reports for the department.
    • Support and implement the divisional and University mission and strategic plan.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
    • Minimum 5 to 7 years relevant supervisory experience in an educational/campus safety setting strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated strong team leadership talents, managerial expertise, organizational skills and motivational abilities.
    • Strong writing and public speaking skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
    • Understanding of current student development theories and practices.

    The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
