The School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Department of Clinical Studies – New Bolton Center invites applications for a faculty position in Large and Small Animal Anesthesia in the Clinician Educator Track. 

The candidate is expected to participate in the academic program of the New Bolton Center Department, including didactic and laboratory teaching of veterinarians, students, interns, residents, and technicians.  Scholarly activity is expected for the candidate offered a position in the Clinician Educator track and numerous opportunities exist for collaborative projects in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Perelman School of Medicine.

Clinical responsibilities include primary anesthesia care, supervision of anesthetic management of animal patients and research animals, as well as participation in the after-hours anesthesia rotation.  The majority of clinical time will be spent at New Bolton Center's Hospital for Large Animal, while approximately 13 weeks of the yearly clinical service will take place at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital for Companion Animals. The Anesthesia program at Penn Vet consists of 4 full-time and 1 part-time Board Certified Anesthesiologists (4 ACVAA and 1 ECVAA) and 5 anesthesia residents. The technical staff includes 16 full time veterinary nurse anesthetists at the small animal hospital and 4 at the large animal hospital. The Section of Anesthesia is currently involved in a vibrant and steadily expanding research and education program involving collaborations with faculty from other veterinary colleges and organizations as well as industries within and outside of North America.

 

New Bolton Center is located in a rural setting in scenic Pennsylvania Hunt Country, approximately 35 miles southwest of the main University Campus in Philadelphia. The anesthesia/surgical patient population of the New Bolton Center Hospital for Large Animals is one of the highest worldwide with approximately 1,400 animals being anesthetized each year for a wide variety of procedures. The Ryan Veterinary Hospital is a specialty-centered and well-equipped academic teaching facility in Philadelphia, walking distance to the medical school. Its large and diverse faculty and staff, assembled from all over the world, attract one of the largest caseloads in the country.


Qualifications:

Requirements include a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree, and board certification or enrollment in a program leading to certification in anesthesiology in either the ACVAA or ECVAA.  Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
