Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

CNNC advances the capacity of immigrants and refugees by building bridges between immigrant populations and existing communities throughout NC via community-based outreach and advocacy, educational programming, research and evaluation, immigrant and refugee leadership development, cultural brokering, and educational opportunities for faculty and students.

Position Summary

Community Health Worker – the community health worker (CHW) will engage with target populations (those who are immigrants, including refugees). The CHW will provide information about available health services, facilitate contact with health providers, offer basic health literacy education, and serve as liaison with health providers to facilitate access to care. In some cases, the CHW will provide brief case coordination and limited interpretation services. The CHW is part of a larger, coordinated effort to engage with unserved and underserved communities in order to enhance access to care.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be fluent in Spanish and English.
A combination of at least some secondary education and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

● A high school diploma or equivalent is highly desired.
● Experience working with the public is highly desired, particularly engagement with the
public relative to health concerns.
● Completion of professional interpreter training is highly desired.
● Basic computer skills (i.e., communicating via email, using Microsoft Word, completing
online forms and surveys) are highly desired.
