The Program Director is responsible for establishing and executing strategies and goals for the Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) Program as well as managing the Program's staff, resources and operations. This position will oversee the program's entire student lifecycle: admissions, student services, careers and alumni. The Program Director will also liaise with the Executive Director/Assistant Dean with regard to career management as well as Finance Faculty to develop and implement program curriculum. This position will engage with industry leaders to deepen and create new relationships to enhance career opportunities for MFE students.

Responsibilities
  • Directs and administers an independent program with complete administrative and programmatic responsibility.
    • Assess, implement, and manage academic and student experience, including admissions, student services, career management, and alumni engagement for the Master of Financial Engineering program based upon a wide-ranging understanding of graduate business educational programs, student development, academic advising, diversity and best practices.
    • Evaluates the effectiveness of the student services function and makes changes to the program to provide better service to students, faculty, staff, and management.
    • Lead strategic planning efforts for the program.
  • Establishes and deepens relationships with the financial and fintech sector, including employers, in order to inform curriculum decisions, contribute to student placement in internships and full-time positions, solicit industry projects for students, and identify lecturers.
    • Closely collaborates with and shares responsibility with the executive director for managing placement staff and placing students in internships and full time positions.
  • Manages financial and HR resources. Manage MFE program staff focused on admissions, academic and student experience, and career placement.
    • Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring decisions and other human resources related issues of managed staff.
    • Recognizes issues that have campus impact or future implications and advises the managed employees accordingly.
    • Oversees the program budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of the program.
    • Works with staff to develop financial forecasts and budgets and to manage spending to budget.
    • Works with Admissions staff to implement diverse recruiting and revenue strategies, ensuring quality of students and long-term health of the programs.
  • Facilitates efforts of various departments and managers to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration. Faculty Engagement & Curriculum Planning:
    • Engages faculty in the development of curriculum for the programs.
    • Works with faculty and appropriate academic committees within Berkeley Haas to ensure academic rigor, relevancy, and coordination.
    • Evaluate course effectiveness and impact.
    • Build relationships, by leading through trust and collaboration in working with faculty to help drive process for curriculum development and to determine learning objectives.
  • Identifies and pursues funding opportunities and revenue streams to ensure the generation of funding of the program.
    • Participates in long-range planning and analyses to identify new program options that contribute to revenue growth.
  • Assesses program's effectiveness, and recommends changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly.
    • Develops innovative ideas for improvement, secures resources and support, and oversees implementation and achievement of stated goals.
  • Serves on committees representing the program, participating in short term and long term planning.
    • Represents program to external organizations.
  • Career Development
    • Attend classes to enhance expertise in job areas and improve communication.
    • Attend relevant campus training courses or classes to gain knowledge of or to become more proficient with campus policies and/or role-relevant skills.
    • Seek additional training opportunities that allow growth within the position and to develop professionally.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrates leadership and supervisory experience, including skills in coaching, fostering teamwork, and monitoring/assessing people, processes or services to make improvements.
  • Advance knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
  • Advance knowledge and experience in finance topics in both academic research and industry practice.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in financial services, senior executive/general manager in private sector or university / academic senior management role.
  • Demonstrates success in recruitment and placement in full time positions and internships.
  • Strong marketing, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.
  • Demonstrates advanced capacity to be a self-starter and to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Advance interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Demonstrates high-level skills to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated effectiveness in public speaking and facilitation.

Education/Training:
  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary will be commensurate with experience up to $139,000.00.
