The University of Missouri School of Medicine, Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in Biochemistry or Biophysics to carry out experiments with an emphasis on the application of fluorescence spectroscopy techniques. The NIH funded position (NIH grant R01AI145960) will support projects designed to investigate the interaction of bacterial toxins with the cellular membrane bilayer. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics or a closely aligned field with extensive demonstrated experience in protein handling and characterization using gel and column chromatography. Candidates with additional expertise in fluorescence spectroscopy and/or lipid chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply.

Specific responsibilities of the job will include but are not limited to: the design and execution of experiments designed to test the scientific hypotheses outlined in the funded grant application; detailed analysis of the experimental data and reporting of said data in a format that is easily accessible to members of the laboratory and is presented in a format that readily conveys the information; mentoring/training of graduate research assistants and laboratory technicians as necessary to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory; regular communication of research progress with the PI and other members of the laboratory; an expectation that the candidate will participate in department wide events such as journal clubs, works in progress meetings and departmental seminars given by invited speakers; and an expectation that all assignments are performed in accordance with EH&S, security, and University policies.


PhD or equivalent by the time of appointment.
