The Division of Student Services at Mission College is seeking a talented leader to fill the position of the Mental Health Services Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, coordinate and implement mental health education program activities and services and operations, to provide direct mental health services to students and serve as an advising resource for faculty, to assume responsibility for program development and supervision, and to perform a variety of professional and technical level tasks relative to mental health services, under the direction of the Director of Health Services and Vice President of Student Services. The Mental Health Services Supervisor exercises direct supervision over technical, intern and student staff.

100% of full time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of November 16, 2020. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is a member of the Supervisors Unit and represented by Teamsters Local 856.

Work Location: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.

Salary and Benefits:
Anticipated Hiring Range:

  • $7,266-$8,006 monthly (Supervisors Salary Schedule, Range 23, Steps A-C).

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

1. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

2. Equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in psychology, social work, or a related field.

3. Four years of increasingly responsible professional experience in mental health counseling, with one year of experience providing technical and functional supervision.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current and valid certification as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with the State of California.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of mental health education program goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for provision of program services to students; implement policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement program activities by compiling, evaluating, and determining student needs.
  • Evaluate operations and activities of assigned programs; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for grant proposals; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Promote, prepare, and conduct special activities, events, and presentations in support of the program.
  • Provide clinical supervision of mental health counseling interns.
  • Assess, evaluate, and counsel students in a variety of health related areas, including substance abuse and mental health issues; conduct emergency interventions as necessary.
  • Research, compile, and prepare reports and documentation on program activities; analyze program and develop corrective action; maintain records of findings and corrective actions; prepare periodic status reports.
  • Represent program with committees, outside organizations, and on staff subcommittees as necessary; coordinate program activities with other district divisions and departments and outside agencies.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, other district employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
  • Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
