Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow Bioluminescence Sensor Development.

Postdoctoral Fellow is sought to take a leading role in the development of an in-water sensor system to measure the bioluminescence response of marine organisms. The instrumentation package will have integrated ancillary measurements from a holographic imaging system, shear probes, and sensors to measure the optical properties of water. The successful candidate will help design the prototype sensor system with a highly interdisciplinary project team, help manage development, and carry out engineering tests to characterize, calibrate, and validate the sensor system. The fellow will also participate in subsequent field deployments of the sensor system.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD from an accredited institution with applicable coursework in engineering by appointment required.

Experience in developing optical prototype systems is required.

Experience deploying sensors in the marine environment preferred.

Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team with scientists, engineers of different disciplines (electronic, optical, software and computer), technicians and students required.

Experience with signal processing and analysis tools, e.g., MATLAB required.

Experience with experimental optics required.

Ability to travel, perform field work, and participate in oceanographic research cruises required.

Experience with bio-optics and ocean optics theory is preferred.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Flexible hours may be required for field work and research cruises.

Salary:

$50,000 - $55,000
