Director of Veterans Upward Bound
Redlands Community College is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Director of Veterans Upward Bound. This is a full-time, 12-month, federal grant funded position with leadership and administrative oversight of all VUB grant operations. Position reports to the Chief Academic and Compliance Officer. As a pre-condition of employment, the applicant must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities include: Implementation and day-to-day operations of the VUB program including, but not limited to: budgeting, planning, administering and the supervising of professional and support staff; establish and maintain internal and external partnerships with local community partners and other veteran servicing agencies to recruit new veterans to the program and ensure the success of participating veterans; serve as the chief liaison to faculty, staff, and administrators of the college and the VUB project’s service area; develop and disseminate informational materials about the VUB program and communicate project services and objectives to the college community and local veteran-serving agencies; oversee recruitment and make final decisions on applicants’ admission to the program; supervise staff efforts to ensure that activities and services are provided according to the legislation and regulations of the U.S. Department of Education and will lead to meeting program objectives; oversee the submission of the annual performance report for its grant; coordinate pre- and post-testing for all VUB participants and ensure that the program meets its objective related to this service; conduct needs assessments for all new VUB participants in collaboration with other program staff; identify academic needs of VUB participants based on pre-tests and coordinate appropriate interventions through services such as academic instruction or tutoring; coordinate VUB refresher courses, including hiring of instructors and collection and documentation of lesson plans, attendance, progress reports, and evaluations; provide personal, career, financial, and academic guidance to veteran participants; develop and administer tracking systems for all program participants; maintain accurate records of participants’ eligibility, participation, and academic progress; authorize the commitment and expenditure of all program funds in accordance with the regulations of the U.S. Department of Education and the State of Oklahoma and the policies of Redlands Community College; and other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications include: Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field is required; a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in program(s) serving adults returning to education or in service to the veteran population; demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds; must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment of constant change; and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills. The ideal candidate will be personable and articulate, with excellent writing and speaking skills. Preference will be given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the VUB target population.
