The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department ofPsychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MDand is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programsand expanding existing programs.


Position Summary:Managespsychiatric and substance abuse treatment needs of adult populations primarilyin an outpatient setting at The Center forDependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR) clinic. Participates inclinical research and dissemination of findings, including presenting andscholarly writing.

 Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Managespsychiatric and substance abuse treatment needs of adult populations primarilyin an outpatient setting.
  • Usesprescriptive authority, procedures, and treatments in accordance withregulations and institutional guidelines.
  • Ordersand interprets laboratory and other investigative studies.  Provides initial assessment, follow-up careand discharge summaries. Provides consultation on patient are issues to staff.
  • Maintainsclinical competencies in specialty area. Delegates appropriately to other practice providers.
  • Performstriage functions and monitoring patients, crisis management, early interventionand consultation for treatment planning.
  • Assistsin referral and of scheduling patients for appropriate clinical support orcommunity referral
  • Participatesin performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safetyactivities; assists in maintaining compliance with JCAHO accreditation andother internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.
  • Participatesin clinical research and dissemination of findings, including presenting andscholarly writing.
  • Participatesin call coverage for the CeDAR residential program, including on weekends andholidays

    QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
    • Licensed (or eligible for CO Licensure)to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Colorado 
    • Certificate of completion from anurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation ofAllied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) 
    Preferred Qualifications
    • The employee will have skills towork effectively on a psychiatric behavioral health team.
    • The employee will have experienceand interest in working with persons with addictive disorders and will becomfortable prescribing medication assisted therapy for substance usedisorders.
    • DEA licensure and X waivercertification.
