Description:

The Chemistry Department invites applications for tenure track positions at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 1, 2021 with the expectation that at least one position will be filled this academic year. Candidates will be considered with expertise in experimental physical chemistry, biochemistry, or environmental analytical chemistry.  Successful applicants will teach courses and laboratories at the introductory level and at more advanced levels in their subdisciplines.  Further information about likely teaching responsibilities specific to each subdiscipline can be found at http://academics.hamilton.edu/chemistry/jobs.  Newly hired faculty teach four courses (usually a combination of lectures and labs) in the first year.  In following years, the standard course load per academic year is five courses.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to guide student research during the summer and is expected to advise the required Senior Project during the academic year.  Strong candidates will show the potential to develop a research program of interest to concentrators in Chemistry and associated interdisciplinary programs (Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Chemical Physics, Environmental Studies), as appropriate.  A Ph.D. and postdoctoral or equivalent experience required.  Applicants must demonstrate excellence, or the potential for excellence, in teaching and research with undergraduates.  Experience teaching or working with diverse student populations is an asset. Excellent startup support and research space in a state-of-the-art facility will be provided.  Please submit curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial acceptable), statements describing teaching and research interests, and arrange for submission of three letters of recommendation to: http://apply.interfolio.com/77951 (Physical Chemistry), http://apply.interfolio.com/77952 (Biochemistry), http://apply.interfolio.com/77953 (Environmental Analytical Chemistry).  Your cover letter and/or teaching statement should address the ways in which you would further the College’s goal of building a diverse and inclusive educational environment. Suggestions for topics to address in your teaching and research statements can be found at our website.  Questions may be directed to Karen Brewer, Chair, Chemistry Department, Hamilton College (kbrewer@hamilton.edu).  Review of applications will begin on September 14.

It is distinguished by a faculty of 190 men and women dedicated to teaching and scholarship, by rigorous academic programs, by an emphasis on teaching students to write well and speak persuasively, and by a commitment to diversity in its broadest sense.
