Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty in the gathering, management, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data and research findings. Work is defined by the ability to coordinate and perform a variety of advanced analytical projects often independently, as requested by College constituencies. Direction is received from the assigned supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two or more years of experience in an educational setting or relevant research experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  2. Good knowledge of the development, management, and use of relational databases and in querying, creating and maintaining working datasets from an ERP/student information system (e.g., Ellucian Colleague, Banner, etc.)
  3. Considerable skill in the use of statistical software such as SPSS, SAS or R.
  4. Considerable skill in using data visualization software, such as Tableau or PowerBI.
  5. Considerable interpersonal, verbal, presentation and written communications skills with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of staff, administration and stakeholders in a diverse community, especially in the areas of statistical analyses and research findings. .
  6. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  7. Considerable skill in problem solving and analytical deduction.
  8. Working skill in developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Master’s degree in a related field.
2. Good knowledge of Institutional Research or a similar department in a higher education environment.
3. Considerable skill in the use of statistical software SPSS and syntax/programming

Essential Duties:

1. Data Evaluation and Analysis
Extracts data from Ellucian Colleague to build and maintain a variety of large, multi-user databases to be used in answering both ad hoc and regularly scheduled research requests. The Institutional Research Data Specialist will coordinate and perform various analyses for requests from individuals/departments throughout the institution.
2. Data Visualization and Reporting
Produces planed institutional reports at regularly scheduled intervals to be distributed throughout the College. Utilizes a variety of visualization methods such as Excel, SPSS and Tableau to disseminate and present information to college personnel in order to facilitate institutional decision-making.
3. Survey Development and Administration
Oversees all aspects of survey development and administration throughout the College, including distribution, analysis and presentation of results to appropriate parties. These include paper and web-based surveys, as well as third-party surveys such as the College Board, Wintergreen, Peterson’s, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), and the National Community College Benchmarking Project (NCCBP).
4. Participation in College Committees/Activities
Represents the Institutional Research office on various committees throughout the College, as directed by the Director and Managing Director of Institutional Research. Provides general consultation for members of the College concerning research needs, as appropriate and as directed by the Director and Managing Director of Institutional Research.
5. Original Research and Development
Generates unique and innovative research projects to further the College’s mission and goals, as time permits. Seeks to advance understanding of College’s data by examining new or previously unused data elements through sophisticated statistical techniques.
6. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certification
7. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
8. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
9. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
10. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality

Satelitte Campuses: ECC holds classes throughout the northwest suburbs at off-campus locations scattered across the district.
