Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of considerable difficulty performing the internal audit functions of the college. Work is distinguished by the ability to implement and maintain a governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) program at the college. Direction is received from the assigned supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Masters degree in accounting, finance or business administration with an emphasis in accounting/finance with 3 – 5 years of auditing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge of internal controls, risk assessment and audit procedures.
  3. Considerable skill in utilizing automated accounting systems and processing procedures.
  4. Considerable skill in problem resolution.
  5. Considerable skill in developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers.
  6. Considerable skill in verbal and written communications
  7. Considerable skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Certified School Risk Manager certification.
  2. Some knowledge of a government or non-profit accounting environment.

Essential Duties:

1. Create, implement, and maintain a governance, risk, and compliance program at the college to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
2. Maintain a master compliance-matrix of all applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
3. Meet with president’s cabinet on an annual basis to establish a compliance and risk tolerance plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
4. Identify personnel/department(s) responsible for each risk topic. Meet with respective personnel/department(s) to document the risks identified, assess risks identified, put controls in place to mitigate risks identified, and to communicate and monitor risks identified.
5. Assist in the preparation of audit schedules for the college and foundation external audits.
6. Follow-up on any finding by various external auditing agencies.
7. Provide a written report and present verbally to the Finance Committee on a quarterly basis.
8. Develop audit programs and perform College wide internal audits as necessary.
9. Available to respond to internal and external customers, either in person or over the phone, during scheduled business hours.
10. Demonstrate independent judgement and discretion in making position related decisions.
