The TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine, Fort Worth’s M.D. school, opened with a class of 60 students in July 2019. TCU and UNTHSC joined together in July 2015 to form this new allopathic medical school. The School of Medicine’s focus on communication, a first-of-its-kind curriculum and the development of Empathetic ScholarsTM uniquely positions the organization to radically transform medical education, improving care for future generations.

Position Overview

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for assisting faculty and subject matter experts in designing innovative teaching materials for a self-directed, flipped classroom approach. The position will also work cooperatively with other technology personnel to implement a technology-rich teaching and learning environment. An ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences is essential. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: * Leads the design and development of online learning projects to support a self-directed learning curriculum. * Supports projects and builds collaborative working relationships that foster integration of consistent delivery and reporting methods across the curriculum. * Works independently under general direction with physicians and educators requiring use of business vocabulary, ethical consideration, tact, discretion and professionalism. * Applies adult learning theory and innovative instructional design methodologies in the development of school of medicine curricula. * Assists faculty and subject matter experts in designing innovative teaching materials to maintain best practices in Usability, Visual Design, Accessibility and Regulatory compliance (i.e. FERPA, HIPPA). * Provides direction for developing video-based, synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and learning technologies. * Assists faculty in developing learning materials for a self-directed, flipped classroom approach. * Works cooperatively with other technology personnel to implement a technology-rich teaching and learning environment. * Troubleshoots questions and problems related to the use of the software associated with developing and implementing teaching and learning tools. * Researches emerging teaching and learning tools, initiatives and trends to provide ideas, guidance, and recommendations to faculty and staff. * Develops and delivers online web-based resources such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, content resources, templates, and tools for instructional development. * Develops training materials and provides training and support for faculty and staff in session recording technologies, in-class room presentation and delivery modalities, web collaboration and productivity tools. * Follows and abides by institutional policies regarding technology and communication use. * Integrates automated learning across the curriculum to improve learning outcomes. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, education, educational technology, or other related field.
  • Three (3) plus years’ relevant experience in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with any of the following: Mac and Windows operating systems, instructional technologies in a health-related field or education institution, session audio/video capture technologies, screen capture, curricular/learning management systems (CMS / LMS), in-class room presentation and delivery modalities, web collaboration and productivity tools, presentation software, or graphic design software.
  • Universal Design Learning Certification.
