Position Overview:

Oversees planning and execution of the Early Settlement -Statewide Peer Mediation Program. Responsible for all aspects of assigned program, including planning, budgeting, and performance. Represents the organization and program in meetings with the Supreme Court of Oklahoma State Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution System, the Oklahoma State Department of Education, regional program representatives, advocates, the media, or members of the community. Meets program goals as set by key performance metrics and tracks program performance. Ensures that all services provided are in compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Implements long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program. Coordinates the delivery of services among the different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Identifies the risks associated with the program activities and manages the risks.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The Director of Early Settlement - Peer Mediation program is responsible for the coordination of peer mediation services with schools statewide through local and regional training workshops. The Director will be training students and educators statewide utilizing the P.R.O.S. – Peaceful Resolutions for Oklahoma Students model. This position provides leadership in the development and adaption of the program throughout Oklahoma, proactively working with leaders from the State Department of Education and local school districts, resolves impediments influencing timely service delivery, creates and sustains relationships with internal and external partners. Ensures that participating schools possess the necessary knowledge and skills in conflict resolution. This program is a renewable grant from the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, Administrative of the Courts, Alternative Dispute Resolution System. The Director will work closely with the Supreme Court of Oklahoma State Director of Alternative Dispute Resolution Program on setting up the program, receiving training, and overall program expectations.


  • Work with the State Director of Dispute Resolution and attend meetings as required.
  • Maintain open line of communication with Supervisor at UCO, providing weekly calendar.
  • Create a calendar with a tentative time-line for program development and execution.
  • Review and revise P.R.O.S. – Peaceful Resolution for Oklahoma Students materials and presentation information to be used statewide in training school leaders and teachers.
  • Develop awareness of the program through correspondence, one-on-one discussions, and speaking presentations to educational leaders in schools across Oklahoma.
  • Build a working relationship with the State Department of Education.
  • Attend mediation training provided by the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
  • Provide training seminars and workshops to schools statewide
  • Work collaboratively with the thirteen (13) Regional Early Settlement Program Directors who can assist with schools in their respective program area.
  • Submit monthly/annual program statistics to the State Director of Dispute Resolution and Supervisor, UCO.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Identifies opportunities and develops programs and initiatives that will enhance current service offerings. Resolves complex, controversial, or unprecedented issues. Exercised judgment by considering risk, impact, and implications of various courses of action.

Budget Authority: Oversees resource allocation within the department or function. Must have delegated signature authority for defined programs, activities, or functions within the department. She/he may serve as the department business officer.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Consults with other directors, deans, or VPs on policy changes. Represents department with regard to cross-functional policy changes. Has delegated authority and primary responsibility to develop and implement policies/procedures within area of responsibility, within the guidelines set forth by the university. Has authority to grant reasonable exceptions to policy, with courtesy notification to his/her supervisor. Note: Director’s supervisor has the authority to require pre-approval of policy exceptions in his/her scope of responsibility.

Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to a VP or Dean-level. Typically does not report to another Director.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities: Typically supervises departmental employees and evaluates staff performance (typically has a minimum of two direct reports). A Director generally supervises managers and professionals, though may additionally supervise individual contributors. Sets clear expectations and holds teams accountable for performance. Establishes shared vision and goals for function. Promotes talent management. Promotes practices that support diversity and inclusion at all levels.

Qualifications Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience that provides extensive knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. Extensive knowledge and compressive understanding of functional area. Experience with leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Appropriate profession accomplishments and credentials.



  • Excellent and proven experience working in Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, maintain deadlines, ensure confidentiality, prioritize, make solid judgments, and problem-solve.
  • Candidate must be an active listener and possess excellent communication skills.
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Ability to self-manage and identify areas of need and complete day-to-day activities.

Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, public service, justice and/or equivalent work experience.

Qualifications Preferred:


Master’s degree in relevant field and or work experience in Conflict Resolution.
