Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking an experienced mental health professional and leader to serve as Director of Counseling Services. The director will be a team leader who provides direct service to students along with a dedicated staff of licensed mental health professionals.

Counseling Services utilizes a short-term model, where services are goal-focused and brief, providing resources, solutions and strategies to deal with individual concerns. Services include individual and group counseling, intake assessments, consultations, crisis intervention, and outreach programs. Services are provided in person and via teleservice modalities.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Director is responsible for management of staff, departmental operations, assessment, and strategic planning. The Director provides vision and leadership in establishing and monitoring departmental services, ensuring operations are consistent with national standards of practice, professional ethics, and best practices in college counseling services.

The Director is expected to establish strong, collaborative working relationships with Student Health Services, Care Management, and Miner Wellness to promote student wellbeing and success. The Director must be a visible and engaged member of Counseling Services and the campus community. The Director plays a key role in the mental health of the campus community.

Responsibilities

    Provide individual counseling, group counseling, consultation, referrals and crisis counseling within a brief treatment model to students, faculty and staffOversee department operations, personnel, budget, program activities and strategic planningAssess services and implement continuous improvement plansSupervise mental health service providers and support staffPromote an office culture of support, compassion, and effective service Establish strong, collaborative relationships Student Health Services, Care Management Services and Miner Wellness to promote student well-beingPromote and represent the department, developing relationships with Student Affairs departments and other S&T partnersServe on campus committees and taskforces

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

    Ph.D. in counseling, psychology or related fieldLicensed/license eligible in Missouri as a mental health practitioner (psychologist, counselor, social worker or other relevant profession)Experience working in a college/university counseling centerSeven (7) years’ experience providing mental health servicesExperience with crisis interventionLeadership experience, including at least three (3) years of direct supervisory responsibilitiesExcellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations Experience with innovation approaches to address mental health needs of college studentsExperience in organizational management, strategic planning, and assessment of outcomesTraining and experience promoting diversity, inclusion and multicultural competence
