Position Summary
We seek candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning fall 2021 in the Affective, Social & Cognitive (ASC) psychology program. Candidate's should have a program of research focused on social psychological processes, broadly construed, and should clearly describe how their research connects to and complements the current research interests of our faculty. Candidates' research programs will connect with affective and/or cognitive science, be hypothesis-driven, and focus on mechanistic explanations of social psychological phenomena. Successful applicants will have an outstanding record of research achievement and a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education. Candidates should also be committed to working with diverse populations in teaching, service, and/or research, and should be committed to advancing the principles and practice of inclusive excellence.

Essential Functions

  • All candidates should have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education and demonstrated aptitude for excellence in teaching.
  • All candidates should demonstrate a commitment to an ongoing and productive research program.
  • Candidates should be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.
  • Teach 4 course equivalents per year as assigned, divided among graduate and undergraduate courses; can include both University and department core requirements and elective, specialized courses.
  • Supervision of graduate student research projects, theses, and dissertations, as well as supervision of some undergraduate research.
  • Participation in department and university citizenship and service activities commensurate with a full-time faculty member is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Successful applicants should have an outstanding record of research achievement and should have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Candidates at the Associate level will be expected to have demonstrated success in generating external grant support.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Psychology (ABD considered for an Assistant Professor hire with completion date before September 1, 2021). If dissertation is not complete, individual will hold the title of Instructor.
  • Potential for teaching excellence.
  • Research skills appropriate to their area of study.
  • Expertise in social psychological and affective approaches.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or related field.
  • Background and/or demonstrated interest working with culturally diverse populations. The ideal candidate demonstrates experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy (https://otl.du.edu/advance-my-practice/inclusive-teaching-practices/). We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service.
