Assistant Professor Specializing in Cell and Gene Therapy, Tenure Track
Perelman School of Medicine - Pediatrics

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Jul 25, 2020
Deadline: Jul 25, 2022 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. The successful applicant will have experience in fundamental research advancing cell or gene therapy technologies in cell and animal model systems. Applicants must have an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree.

Research responsibilities will include developing and maintaining an active basic and/or translational research program.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching and mentoring of students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees.

For candidates with an M.D., clinical responsibilities may include providing inpatient and outpatient care to pediatric patients at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Successful applicants will have evidence of prior scholarly productivity and a strong publication record in one or more aspects of cell and gene therapy, with examples including viral and non-viral mediated gene transfer, virology, vectorology, bio-engineering, and translational bioscience. A startup package commensurate with experience will be provided. The selected candidate will be expected to secure extramural grant funding.

The research environment at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the Perelman School of Medicine, and the University of Pennsylvania more broadly benefits from an integrated campus and provides abundant opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration with world-class investigators. CHOP and Penn have developed world class facilities and programs in cell and gene therapy, and the successful applicant will be able to leverage these resources in developing a research program.

The primary faculty appointment will be in a department in the Perelman School of Medicine that provides the best scientific fit. The position will be based at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Should the applicant advance technologies from the preclinical to the clinical stage, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania have a robust infrastructure to produce clinical-grade viral vectors and cell therapies and have well-developed administrative structures to meet complex regulatory requirements.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
