FSU's Equal Opportunity Statement can be viewed at: http://www.hr.fsu.edu/PDF/Publications/diversity/EEO_Statement.pdfResponsibilities As a Senior Data Engineer/Architect in support of the Health Big Data Initiative at FSU, this position architects the systems and processes that will help the institution discover the patterns and information found in vast amounts of data using predictive models and machine learning in order to support ongoing research.

Supports the University's data mining, predictive modeling, and machine learning needs across multiple sources of data. Architects, designs, develops, analyzes, and supports systems, and processes as necessary. Develops programming code and scripts using appropriate languages and tools to provide problem resolutions and new functionality in complex analytical systems.

Responsible for capturing and documenting technical requirements needed for new design, development, and maintenance of systems and processes or modifications and performing the technical development based on these requirements. This position will work with other senior team members and partner with functional users to accomplish this task.

Responsible for creating and conducting testing scenarios to ensure the integrity of analytical models and processes and validation of same for all applications. Provides recommendations for improvements/enhancements to existing systems.

Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and six years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalency and ten years of experience.

(Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to ten years.)

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical users.

Ability to document existing and new processes.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to utilize problem solving and technical skills.

Knowledge of applicable computer software and operating systems including big data and analytic technologies and languages such SQL, Kinesis or Kafka,Hadoop, Spark, Python, and Scala.

Knowledge of standards and format used in data storage such as Parquet, AVRO, XML and JSON.Preferred Experience with traditional data integration technologies such as GoldenGate, Informatica, DataStage, Talend or SSIS would be very desirable.Pay Plan This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.Soft Money Funded Position This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.Schedule If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5.Criminal Background Check This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
