The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing data within a Lab Information Management System (LIMS),
Poultry experience, lab experience; Bachelor of Science preferred. Excellent communication
skills are imperative.

Position Summary

This position provides data management support, both clerical and scientific, to the diagnostic lab staff, PDRC personnel, referring laboratories/veterinarians and the poultry industry. This individual will also perform laboratory technical professional duties: accession samples, store samples appropriately; perform maintenance on all automated equipment; contribute to the overall productivity of the lab personnel by managing serological/general lab supply inventory, reviewing cases, and maintaining files.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Ability to follow diagnostic laboratory protocols, prioritize work load between data entry and testing, while paying attention to detail. Ability to move from one activity or work task to another easily and effectively, as workflow can be unpredictable and variable. Excellent communication skills and experience coordinating with people who have a diverse set of skills and come from different backgrounds. Familiarity with
communication tools.

Duties/Responsibilities

Management of data entry into the current LabTrak LIM system. Work with domestic and international clients as well as PDRC lab personnel, faculty, staff and graduate students to provide oversight of data collection, entry and review. Review cases for accurate data entry of submission information, maintenance of files and completeness. Verify the correct testing was performed on accessioned samples. Accurate data entry is critical to generate reports from the LIMS system and to mine data in the system. Work with individual labs to establish work flow of samples. Provide support in a timely manner to domestic and international clients, via phone or email, with issues on current submissions and data provided. Report accurate results to clientele in a timely manner. Assemble completed lab reports and review all case types to be made into sales orders. Store samples appropriately and maintain a well-documented log of sample possession throughout the various diagnostic labs of PDRC. Follow up on cases within a designated time period to ensure data is entered and reported.

Perform laboratory/bench work involving accessioning, proper storage of specimens, serology and bacteriology. Perform all assays according to SOPs and enter results into the current LabTrak LIM system. Follow positive assays with confirmatory testing if needed. Perform all testing with precision, accuracy and attention to detail. Reproduce all testing with minimal variability when necessary.

Interaction and communication with clients, including poultry industry representatives, poultry and small animal veterinarians, UGA staff, faculty and graduate students. Communicate to and provide customer and internal support regarding updates to the LabTrak LIM system, especially with respect to managing data integrity. This system has the potential to employ a client portal and may support digital data entry/collection in part by clients as well as PDRC staff.

Manage day to day lab activities including reporting, filing, case review, maintaining lab supplies, cleanliness, lab organization and lab safety. Daily oversight of student workers and federal work study students. Training of student and temporary lab workers in coordination with lab management. Any other laboratory business-related duties or responsibilities as assigned by the lab managers.
