The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the North Carolina Children’s Hospital is seeking a physician faculty member to serve as Division Chief for Pediatric Endocrinology and to expand the Division’s clinical, education, and research activities. North Carolina Children’s Hospital is a top-tier academic medical center, with a mission to align clinical care, advocacy, research, and education to deliver world-class family-centered care. The Hospital is ranked among the best children’s hospitals by US News and World Report and USNWR ranked UNC Pediatric Endocrinology #1 in the Southeast and 12th in the country in 2018. The Division is also accredited by the American Diabetes Association.

The Division Chief reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and will join a well-established team of medical professionals, including board-certified pediatric endocrinologists, pediatric endocrinology fellows and pediatric residents, Certified Diabetes Educators, nutritionists and nurses who work together to provide the best care to the patients of UNC Children’s Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes services. Specialty services/clinics include:

•Diabetes mellitus
•Clinic for Gender Wellness
•Turner Syndrome Program – Nationally recognized clinic by the Turner Syndrome Global Alliance and Turner Syndrome Society of the United States
•Disorders of Sexual Development (DSD) multidisciplinary team
•Metabolic Bone Disease
•Lipid Disorders

The Division Chief is responsible for leading the team of Pediatric Endocrinologists, providing excellent clinical care, directing and expanding the research mission of the Division, mentoring early-career faculty and supporting the educational activities within the Division. Administrative responsibilities include team-building, budget management, personnel recruitment and supervision, and strategic planning. Strong preference will be shown to candidates who are nationally known investigators with evidence of administrative and teaching experience. Experience with institutional quality improvement programs and outpatient clinic leadership is highly preferred. Strong potential exists for broader leadership role(s) within the Department of Pediatrics and NC Children’s Hospital. This is a full-time, open rank/open term faculty position. Rank, salary, and appointment type will be determined at a level commensurate with the applicant’s experience and academic accomplishments.

Educational Requirements

The successful candidate will be MD or MD/PhD educated and board certified in Pediatric Endocrinology.

Qualifications and Experience

Successful candidates will have at least 10 years of experience as a physician at an academic medical center and experience in departmental or hospital leadership roles. Effective interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills are required.
