Positiondescription

This position reportsdirectly to the senior bioinformatician and PIs in the Department ofPharmacology and Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome, and is responsiblefor performing rigorous and valid analysis and integration of multiple -omicsdatasets in collaboration with other scientists on the team. The successfulcandidate will have extensive computational and analytical skills and ademonstrated ability perform the tasks outlined below.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with other members of the team to provide high-level, professional, and scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analyses.
  • Thinks independently and creatively to identify bioinformatic and data management solutions.
  • Creates and disseminates tools for all team members to access relevant clinical and sample data.
  • Develops and implements complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for multi-layered -omics datasets (transcriptome, epigenome, proteome, microbiome, etc.)
  • Creatively and effectively integrates data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries.
  • Collaborates with other team members to co-author abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts.

    QualificationsMinimumqualifications
  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or a related field such as Data Science.
  • At least two years of experience analyzing of next-generation sequencing data (e.g. RNA sequencing, ChIP-seq, microbiome).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical principles relevant in biomedical research.
  • Required competencies and skills

  • Strong programming skills in common languages/packages used for bioinformatic and statistical analysis and (e.g. R, Python, Perl).
  • ·       Competency with UNIX-basedcommand line tools and in-depth knowledge of shell scripting.

    ·       Experience running and troubleshootingjobs in high performance and/or cloud computing environments.

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Proven self-initiative and ability to catalyze new projects or ideas.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and analysis requests.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desired competenciesand skills

  • Master’s degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or a related field such as Data Science.
  • Three or more years of experience applying bioinformatic tools to next-generation sequencing data.
  • Three or more years of experience working in an academic research setting.
  • ·       Experience analyzing and miningcancer genomics, clinical data, and related data sets.

  • Experience with relational database management and querying (e.g. SQL).
  • ·       Advanced statisticalknowledge as applied to bioinformatics / genomics.
