Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 41
The Spirit Program Director is responsible for the overall management of all cheerleaders, dance team, mascots, and Smokey the dog handlers related to appearances and performances at athletic, campus, community, and national events.

*Direct, coordinate and lead all spirit groups with the help of assistant/volunteer coaches
*Monitor safety guidelines, implementation safety training and awareness during practices under national rules and guidelines certifications
*Technically trained to instruct, supervises and evaluate performance of athlete
*Monitor spirit members performance to ensure maximum crowd participation and team support as well as monitor academic progress
*Direct the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of all spirit members
*Make decision regarding routine functions of spirit members based on student needs, academic success, professional assessment and institutional purposes to include daily on campus monitoring and supervision
*Establish practice schedule and attend/direct all practices/appearance, etc. which is conducive to academic schedules of spirit team members
*Establish a comprehensive conditioning and strength building program with assistance from strength and conditioning staff as well as monitor the physical and mental well-being with the assistance of an athletic trainer/strength and conditioning staff member
*Monitor academic progress to ensure athlete maintains academic success directed towards securing a degree
*Prepare teams for maximum opportunity to compete at the national level
*Collaborate with Fan Experience and Pride of the Southland Band on game day preparation

Operations
*Direct daily operations of spirit program
*Attend and coordinate all travel operations for home/away games and performances as well as other events that require spirit member participation such as pep rallies, community events philanthropic functions and national competitions
*Coordinate the ordering/distribution/collection of all team apparel, forms and records including liability waivers, applications/contracts, insurance, annual physical forms and team travel information
*Provide an inventory/security of all university-owned equipment as well as maintenance and repair requirement as well as purchases of equipment and supplies
*Maintain and direct all daily operations of spirit program to include student conduct, academic progress, team infractions, budgetary considerations and community relations
*Manage spirit program social media accounts
*Be fiscally responsible and appropriately manage the budget.

Oversee, administer and direct all aspects of summer spirit camps to include lodging, registration, budget, meal responsibilities, facility needs, parking procedures instructional staff, management staff and marketing.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree required.
Licenses/certifications:  American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA) required.

Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience:
Experience working with students of diverse cultures, racial and ethnic groups.
Experience in selecting, coaching, and developing spirit team members at the collegiate level.

Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience:
Experience coaching cheer and dance teams at a NCAA Division I Spirit program at a Power 5 university.
Experience as a collegiate cheer or dance team member at a NCAA Division I Spirit program at a Power 5 university.
Administrative experience working with a collegiate cheer and dance program.

Competencies/Qualifications:
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel often.
Demonstrated behavioral expectations include:
• Unquestioned integrity and trustworthiness. Adherence to university, SEC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
• Commitment to the Athletics Department and University’s mission.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork.
