Post-Doctoral Research Associate Position in Polymer Chemistry

A post-doctoral research associate position in the area of molecular bottlebrushes (brush polymers) is available in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in polymer synthesis and characterization. Comprehensive knowledge of polymer chemistry is needed to carry out the research project. Prior experience in the synthesis and study of well-defined multicomponent polymers is required, as demonstrated by quality publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Experience with stimuli-responsive polymers and microscopy techniques (atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, etc.) is a plus. This position is initially for one year and may be extended depending on the availability of funds, research performance, and mutual interest.

Duties and Responsibilities:
•Design and synthesize well-defined polymers and molecular bottlebrushes
•Characterize brush polymers by NMR, size exclusion chromatography, light scattering, etc.
•Investigate the behavior and properties of responsive molecular bottlebrushes
•Write reports on a regular basis and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
•Ensure compliance with safety requirements of the University of Tennessee Knoxville
•Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory when needed


QualificationsPosition Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
 A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering. The incumbent should have a proven record of experience in polymer chemistry. Strong abilities and expertise in organic and polymer synthesis and characterization are required. In addition, the incumbent should have good communication and presentation skills.
