Screening of applicants' credentials will begin January 23rd and will continue until the position is filled.The University of Tennessee is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Assistant or Associate Dean of UT Extension and Professor and Department Head of Family & Consumer Sciences. This is a 12-month, tenure track position based in Knoxville, Tennessee with statewide responsibilities.The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)—an integral part of the University of Tennessee Extension—focuses on strengthening individuals, families and communities through education in Consumer Economics, Health and Safety, Human Development, and Nutrition and Food Safety. FCS faculty and staff work with Extension agents to address important issues facing Tennesseans as they cope with social, economic and technological change. The department is a vital link connecting the resources of the University to citizens across the state, and its innovation and excellence have resulted in nationally recognized programs and faculty. Programs are research or evidenced based with an evaluation component that documents impact. The department has an outstanding record of external funding currently generating in excess of $11 million annually in grants and contracts to support Extension educational programs and applied research. The department’s goals are accomplished by eight tenure track faculty members, thirty five professional and support staff on the Knoxville campus, three regional FCS program leaders, an FCS agent in each of the state’s 95 counties, four EFNEP area specialists and approximately seventy one grant funded program assistants working with the Expanded Food and Nutrition Program, the Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (SNAP Ed) and after school programs across the state. The department’s faculty hold academic appointments in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, and work collaboratively with faculty in other departments at the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, numerous state and federal agencies and other universities nationwide. Additional information is available at https://ag.tennessee.edu/fcs/Pages/default.aspx .Responsibilities: The Assistant / Associate Dean and Professor, Extension Family & Consumer Sciences and College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, is responsible to the Dean of UT Extension (75%) and the Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (25%) for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the Family & Consumer Sciences component of UT Extension and outreach efforts of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. The Assistant / Associate Dean also serves as the Statewide Family and Consumer Sciences Program Leader and Family & Consumer Sciences Department Head.
