JOB SUMMARY/BASIC FUNCTION:

This position teaches in the School of Engineering programs. Engineering topics include (but are not limited to) statics, dynamics, CAD/CAM design, thermodynamics, thermo-fluids, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, manufacturing processes, mechanics of materials, machine component design, and materials engineering.

Faculty will participate in the process of defining undergraduate engineering curriculum. In this capacity, faculty are expected to:

-Assist in curriculum review and development
-Develop laboratories to support engineering curriculum
-Create projects designed to enhance lectures
-Read and stay abreast of current topics in computer science and engineering,
-Develop syllabi and review textbooks for adoption
-Propose and develop new courses as determined appropriate by the faculty
-Actively participate in and support SACS and ABET accreditation preparation

Faculty are required by the university to:
-Teach contracted load
-Maintain office hours
-Mentor and advise students
-Keep timely records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed

Faculty will perform other duties as assigned and actively participate in University assemblies and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a master of science in mechanical engineering.

In addition, an exemplary record of scholarship, external research support, and teaching is expected for appointment to a faculty position. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research, teach undergraduate classes, and contribute to the Department’s service mission.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree in mechanical engineering. Candidates with experience at the associate or full professor level will be considered, however, priority will be given to candidates at the assistant level.

Work Hours

This is a residential position. Class schedules will be determined on a semester basis by department chair and dean of school.
