Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor, the Vice-President (Finance and Operations) will provide strategic leadership, strategic capital planning and master planning, oversight and stewardship for all aspects of the University’s financial operational services, facilities (building operations including construction), human resources including pension, ancillary services, risk management, and campus endowment lands development. The Vice-President (Finance and Operations) will be expected to work collaboratively with the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) in preparation of the budget. The Vice-President (Finance and Operations) is responsible for the University’s non-academic support functions and for the development and implementation of related innovative business and fiscal policies, regulations, and practices with a goal of leading and achieving operational effectiveness and efficiencies.  As a member of the University’s Senior Executive Team, the Vice-President (Finance and Operations) is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and direction to the organization, ensuring excellence in financial and strategic capital planning, and reporting to several Committees of the Board of Governors. The Vice-President, Finance and Operations will be expected to work collaboratively with the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) in preparation of the budget. The successful Vice-President (Finance and Operations) will prioritize a strategic approach to their portfolio, with a strong emphasis on planning, analysis, accountability, risk management, teamwork and transparency.

As the ideal candidate, you bring advanced education and/or professional credentials, along with leadership experience within a diverse portfolio of functions and in organizations with complex governance structures. You have demonstrated that you are strategic, innovative, collegial and entrepreneurial and possess the strategic acumen and global thinking to enable you to set your sights on the horizon, to understand the goals of the university and to translate them into plans that support the university’s mission, allow students, faculty and staff to realize their goals, and ensure the University of Guelph’s sustainability in the broadest sense. You are passionate about how you and your team can collaborate with and support others in the pursuit of the academic, teaching and research mission of the university.

The next Vice-President (Finance and Operations) should possess an advanced degree and a professional designation (CPA),  experience in leading within a diverse portfolio of functions, experience in or an appreciation for working within a complex governance structure and a broadly-accountable context, and experience in fostering and maintaining positive relationships and partnerships with community, business, government, and other institutions and organizations.
