Position: Event Set-up and Moving Crew Member Location: Wheaton, IL
Job Id: 550 # of Openings: 1 FACILITIES OPERATIONS: EVENT SETUP AND MOVING CREW MEMBERTHIS IS A FULL TIME POSITION: 40 hours per week / 12 months per year. The starting hourly rate for this position is $16.00. The hours for this position are 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM Monday-Friday Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Supervisor of the Event Setup and Moving Crew, the Event Setup and Moving Crew Member is part of a team responsible for supporting 2000+ special events per year with move-in, setup and teardown, as well as providing a variety of in-house moving and delivery services. Duties:
I. Event Setup
  1. Load and unload event resources, (tables, chairs, staging, etc.), to and from trucks and equipment carts.
  2. Deliver, set up, tear down and remove event resources to and from designated locations, before and after events, according to predetermined schedules, setup instructions and diagrams.
  3. Operate a Wheaton College vehicle.
  4. Receive and transmit information by radio, telephone and email.
  5. Interface with all building personnel, internal and external customers, and guests.
  6. Maintain an inventory of event resources in clean and serviceable condition, notifying supervisors of needed repair or replacement.
  7. Monitor condition of facilities, reporting damage and anomalous conditions to supervisors.
  8. Assist in training and supervising new crew members, student and temporary staff.
  9. Complete required documentation ensuring paperwork is accurate and verified.
  10. Maintain an irregular work schedule as required by shift supervisors for the servicing of scheduled events and routine assignments.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
II. Moving
  1. Deliver, set up and relocate office, residential, and academic furniture, equipment and other materials.
  2. Load and unload trucks by hand, or with the use of forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or dolly.
  3. Wrap furniture with blankets to prevent damage; stack, and secure items in position on truck to prevent shifting and damage during shipment.
  4. Operate a Wheaton College vehicle.
  5. Assist in cleaning and maintaining truck, tools, and equipment.
  6. Coordinate deliveries with customers, Project Managers and Trades as required.
  7. Operate a forklift.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

III. Custodial
  1. Respond to emergencies during and after regular work hours as requested.
  2. Provide on-site staffing during events, the responsibilities of which include:
  3. Maintain a clean facility; policing meeting rooms, public areas and restrooms as needed.
  4. Clean hard floors, carpet, glass, stainless steel, painted surfaces, porcelain, chromed and plastic surfaces and mirrors.
  5. Lock and unlock buildings and events spaces according to a predetermined schedule.
  6. Set up and tear down of event resources.
  7. Respond to customer needs.
  8. Operate hydraulic loading dock lift and thrust stage.
  9. Deliver custodial supplies and launder mops as needed.
  10. Fill in for custodial personnel during labor shortages as needed.
  11. Participate in all training.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience
  1. High school or equivalent
  2. Valid Illinois Driver License in good standing
  3. One to three years’ experience in a custodial, event setup, moving, warehouse or related facilities position

  7. Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  8. Strong reasoning skills, including the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  9. Basic computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Outlook.
Physical Demands
  1. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and team lift 150+ pounds.
  2. Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, grasp and finger, as well as work outside during all weather conditions, (heat, cold, rain, snow etc.).
  3. Must have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
