Job Description:

The work of Oklahoma StateUniversity in Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) is centered on three principles; student success, employee excellence, andcommunity relevance. Teach classes that will consist oftheory, CAT software, speed building, Medical Terminology I and II, EnglishVocabulary I and II, Punctuation, and Internship. Must be comfortable teaching MarkKislingbury's theory and technologically savvy enough to teach CAT software andreal-time to students.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Prepare classroommaterials for use in dictation, speed goal tests, and court reporting andcaptioning and academic courses.
  2. each any speed rangein the court reporting program
  3. Dictate and test timedmaterial at any speed range from 40-240 wpm
  4. Teach courses requiredby the court reporting program
  5. Keep up to date in proficiencyin computer-aided transcription, real-time writing, and litigation support andany other skill taught in the court reporter courses.
  6. Prepare for in-classor on-line/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, andconsultation with students outside of class and/or on-line,
  7. Maintain accurateclass and other records required by the college.
  8. Follow course outlinesas agreed upon with direct supervisor.
  9. Maintain office hourseach week.
  10. Observe, support andenforce the regulations, policies and programs of the college.
  11. Provide each studentwith a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course.
  12. Refer students toappropriate college sources for information on counseling and other studentservices.
  13. Assist students byproviding advice on requirements for successful achievement.
  14. Work cooperativelywithin the college community.
  15. Complete all mandatorytraining as required
  16. All other duties asrequired.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a national certified throughNCRA shorthand reporter with at least five years of experience working as acourt reporter or other career field that utilizes the court reporting skills.

Education:

Associate Degree or equivalent experience and nationalcertification through NCRA

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to write in real time and to operate an electronicstenotype machine
  • Proficiency with Windows, word processing, the Internet,and email
  • Experience teaching or providing CART or captioning
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to amulticultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively withall students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly andeffectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receiveinstructions and respond to inquiries appropriately.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of courtreporting theory, CAT software, speed building, Medical Terminology I and II,English Vocabulary I and II, Punctuation, and Internship.
  • Must be comfortable teaching MarkKislingbury's theory and technologically savvy enough to teach CAT software andreal-time to students.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to workindependently, prioritize tasks and balance work assignments.
  • Passion forassisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity andprofessionalism
  • Evidences ahistory of demonstrating ethical, collaborative, and professional behaviorwhile exhibiting traits of empathy, compassion, and kindness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 6-8 years experience in court reporting career field
  • Knowledge of higher education procedures and policies that includethe Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) and legislative bodies.
  • Familiar with the two-year college environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment.
  • Work will be performed in an office and classroom environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone and via email.

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
