East Carolina University is the 3rd largest public university in North Carolina, with approximately 27,000 students and over 5,000 faculty and staff. The University is located approximately 85 miles east of Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina, and approximately 87 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine’s affiliated hospital is Vidant Medical Center, the flagship hospital for Vidant Health, that serves as the teaching hospital. There is a 52-bed inpatient service that houses acute beds, combined MI-ID beds, and combined Med-Psych beds in this 900+ bed tertiary care academic medical center serving Eastern and coastal North Carolina providing acute, intermediate, rehabilitation, and outpatient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties. The plans for a 10-bed child and adolescent unit are currently underway.
