The Department of Physical Therapy in the University of the Pacific’s School of Health Sciences welcomes applications from individuals interested in joining our faculty in a full-time 11-month tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and review will be on-going until the position is filled. Ideally, the selected candidate will start as early as May of 2021.

The University of the Pacific in Northern California has offered concise programs culminating in an accredited degree in physical therapy for 30 years, and began offering the DPT degree in 2003. The successful candidate will join a department of dynamic full-time and adjunct clinical faculty dedicated to preparing our students to be physical therapists and leaders who will have purposeful, meaningful, and positive impacts on health and society.

The primary teaching responsibilities for this position are specific to content knowledge and clinical expertise in the area of exercise physiology and cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation, as well as other needs identified by the department. In addition to fulfilling and excelling in teaching responsibilities, the successful faculty member must be a productive scholar with a commitment to university service.

The doctor of physical therapy, and programs in athletic and speech-language pathology are offered in Stockton. The doctor of audiology is offered in San Francisco. The School of Health Sciences is joined by two other renowned schools offering professional health care degrees: Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Basic Qualifications

Earned academic and/or clinical doctorate.
3 years of contemporary clinical experience as a Physical Therapist treating patients in an acute/ critical care environment, or in a cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation environment.
PT licensure or eligibility for PT licensure in California within 1 year from date of hire.

Additional Qualifications

University level teaching experience teaching content related to one or more of the following: Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Physical Agents, Electrotherapeutic Modalities, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Integumentary Physical Therapy
Evidence of scholarly activity or publications
American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification preferred; other specialist credentials that reflect expertise aligned with teaching needs will be considered
Advanced academic training in physiology or related field

Physical Requirements

The applicant should be able to perform the essential functions of a physical therapist equivalent to clinical practice in a professional setting, which include but are not limited to:
• Relatively static and prolonged positioning in sitting and/or standing 3-7 hours/day
• Walking 3-7 hours/day
• Lifting and carrying greater than 50 lbs
• Gross physical mobility including pushing/pulling 50 lbs, twisting, bending, and squatting/kneeling
• Manual dexterity and moderate hand strength
• Corrected visual acuity of at least 20/40
• Corrected hearing to detect soft sounds 20 feet away
