Academic Support Counselor, RN (IHP Staff)

DescriptionSUMMARY:

 

Provide academic support services for students enrolled in the School of Nursing, and alumni.

   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the availability of academic support services to students through publications, web alerts, open houses, information sessions, email, open office hours, and other forms of communication as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the creation of a culture that supports student wellness and success.
  • Design and implement strategies to enhance diversity and inclusion.
  • Aids students in the form of instruction, coaching, and reflection to students struggling academically.
  • Regularly review the need for academic support, methods of delivery, quality, and outcomes of academic support in consultation with Assistant Dean and Program Directors.
  • Guide students through online orientation to the School of Nursing, by helping students through the details of pre-enrollment  requirements, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Develop academic support plans to maintain high-touch support for students.
  • Provide early intervention to students of concern who demonstrate need based on readiness assessment. Track student progress, collect and analyze data regarding student success through to licensure or certification.
  • Assist students in NCLEX preparation as a content and testing expert.
  • Maintain a database of all requests for individual and group academic support and report as requested.
  • Partner with faculty in supporting students of concern, proctor exams as needed, assist with accommodations for students with disabilities as directed, and troubleshoot concerns.
  • Attend periodic faculty program and Curriculum committee meetings.
  • Complete ATI training for NCLEX preparation and become familiar with all resources available from vendor.
  • Presents at open houses and orientation sessions.
  • Coordinates special events for at risk student groups.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

In collaboration with the School of Nursing Administrative staff, the ASC will share the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain positive public relations through the provision of expert assistance.
  • Serves as a resource regarding program details and the Institute for prospective and current students and faculty.
  • Supports school wide activities as needed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Must be a Registered Nurse eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.

Bachelor's degree required at minimum.

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively with administrative, faculty, and student constituents. 
  • Ability to juggle multiple simultaneous projects, set priorities, and delegate tasks when necessary.
  • Proactive in developing/updating systems as needed to meet administrator's needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands and respond to complaints from assorted constituencies. 
Technical Skills

  • Computer proficient, MS Office experience very helpful. 
  • Familiar with standard office equipment; fax, copiers, multi-task telephone system.
