Job Summary/Basic Function:

Primary responsibilities will include teaching Survey of Chemistry and/or Principles of Chemistry, advising students, and service to the college, community and discipline.

The Department

The Department of Natural Sciences offers a baccalaureate degree in Biology, associate degree in Chemistry, and provides service courses to support the College’s associate degrees and other baccalaureate degree programs. There are currently 16 tenured or tenure-track faculty members in the department.

The College

Gordon State College has served the community and region continuously since its founding in 1852, and has been a unit in the University System of Georgia since 1972. After more than three decades of serving the state as a residential two-year college, Gordon was named a state college in 2006 and began developing select four year programs that address critical state needs. Gordon State College serves approximately 4000 students and has more than 120 full-time faculty.

The Community

The main campus of Gordon State College is in Barnesville, Georgia. Located approximately one hour south of Atlanta, students and faculty enjoy the pleasures of small town living together with access to the many attractions of a major metropolitan center and an international airport.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field or master’s degree in related area with 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry. Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching with special attention to needs of diverse populations

Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology is required. Preferred candidate will be flexible, highly motivated, and enthusiastic about student success, student research and the scholarship of teaching.
