Position: Groundskeeper 1 Location: Wheaton, IL
Job Id: 547 # of Openings: 1 LANDSCAPING OPERATIONS - GROUNDSKEEPER 1 ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Landscape Operations Manager, the Groundskeeper’s primary responsibility is to improve the appearance of the Wheaton College landscape, through routine and preventative maintenance of all the College grounds and properties. A strong work ethic, the ability to perform well in a team setting and a degree of organization and self-direction is expected to fulfill the needs of the position. This is a 40 hour a week position however; this position is required to work overtime. Snow removal is mandatory and on call 24/7 during the snow events. Exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, snow, rain and ice. Duties1. Serve as snow crew member, willing to be on call 24/7 during snow events. 2. Remove snow and ice, using various tools such as but not limited to, ice scrappers, snow blowers, plows, brushes, salters and shovels. 3. Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials and turf. 4. Perform general grounds maintenance including but not limited to mowing, weeding, edging, string-trimming, pruning of shrubs and trees, and watering. 5. Practice proper turf practices throughout the campus including but not limited to, over-seeding, aerating and spraying. 6. Apply fertilizer to athletic and campus turf. 7. Apply pesticide appropriately and properly record all applications. 8. Operate full size trucks, tractors, high lifts, small engine landscape equipment, lawn mowers, and plow trucks and snow brushes. 9. Trash removal 10. Respond to campus emergencies during and after regular work hours as requested. 11. Perform jobs tasks within the guidelines of the College’s safety standards and procedures 12. Work effectively in a service-oriented environment where priorities frequently change. 13. Represent Wheaton College with a high degree of integrity and provide strong customer service to customers, both internal and external. 14. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications1. High School graduate/GED required 2. Must have State of Illinois Pesticide operator license, or pass the test within 1 year of hire. Must maintain every 3 years. 3. Valid Illinois driver’s license 4. Basic computer skills 5. Ability to perform physical work for 8 or more hours at a time, lifting and carrying 50lbs unassisted
