Search for the Dean of Extended Learning and Global Programs

San Marcos, California

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites nominations and applications for the next Dean of Extended Learning and Global Programs. The Dean will join CSUSM at a transformative time, working closely with a new President and Provost to envision a strategy to address the evolving market of continuing education. The Dean will have the opportunity to create new programs, develop a strong digital presence, enhance the unit’s partnership with the main campus, and enact a vision for an ethical and inclusive culture at a moment when the educational domain is undergoing rapid and unexpected change. Building on the University’s unwavering commitment to student success, the Dean will implement an innovative, student-focused academic experience and position Extended Learning at CSUSM as a national and international leader in non-traditional and professional education.

Since its founding in 1989 as the CSU’s 20th campus, CSUSM has grown to serve nearly 17,000 students across its four colleges and Extended Learning unit, with 43 undergraduate and 25 graduate programs. A comprehensive public university offering diverse academic programs, the campus prides itself on exemplary teaching, innovative and experiential curricula, and the application of new technologies to solve real problems. CSUSM is both a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), and the institution enrolls more American Indian students per capita than any other CSU campus. Cal State San Marcos is also a national model for student access and success; more than 50 percent of graduates are the first in their families to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Extended Learning (EL) at CSUSM serves as the academic outreach arm of the university. As a unit within the Division of Academic Affairs, Extended Learning is North San Diego County’s leading provider of continuing education and training programs. Located approximately eight miles east of the Pacific Ocean and 35 miles from downtown San Diego, CSUSM grounds its mission in the public trust, alignment with regional needs, and sustained enrichment of the intellectual, civic, economic, and cultural life of the region and state. The University is committed to meeting the needs of a rapidly growing region, expanding and thriving with a pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit, and the next Dean of Extended Learning and Global Programs will be an innovative and principled leader with a vision for the future of continuing education and professional studies in the region, state, and beyond.
