Security/Fire Alarm System Specialist
This person will provide expert technical support for College owned Fire Alarm Systems, Security, Area of Rescue, and Access Control Systems. The Security/Fire Alarm Specialist will work with outside vendors to complete routine inspections on fire alarm, sprinkler piping, fire pump, and other related systems including testing, cleaning, make any necessary repairs, and documenting tests to comply with NFPA 72. He/she will make periodic reports and recommendations to establish standards and improve processes relative to the security and fire systems to the supervisor. Additionally, this person will provide direction to other General Service employees in the security/fire alarm systems area in the absence of the HVAC Supervisor and as directed by the Director of Facilities Operations.Position Work Calendar12- MonthPosition Work Hours/Week

*Possession of a valid driver’s license. (Minimum)

*Working knowledge of electrical theory, practices, and techniques and of applicable standards and electrical code regulations. (Minimum)
*Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building, electrical, sprinkler plans, schematics and operational product manuals. (Minimum)
*Understand general concepts in other Life Safety Systems, i.e., Fire Alarm, Nurse Call, and Mass Notification and how these interface with Security Systems. (Minimum)
*Capability of working with varied programmable devices and systems. (Minimum)
*Demonstrate cooperation, teamwork, and a commitment to professional and organizational development. (Desired)
*Documented completion of related technical courses in the trade at a school, institute or branch of the Armed Services. (Minimum)
*Graduation from a recognized school or completion of a formal training program recognized by the industry or trade. (Desired)
*Five (5) years of successful experience in the security, and fire alarm field. (Minimum)
*Extensive experience in electronic maintenance and low voltage electrical repair. (Desired)
-Install, program, test, troubleshoot and maintain electronic and IP/software-based systems including but not limited to access control, security and fire systems in compliance with NFPA 72. (Essential)
-Perform inspections and functionally testing for all peripheral devices in accordance with NFPA 72. (Essential)
-Manage daily work orders, and service calls for the facility’s multiple buildings. (Essential)
-Maintain all manuals, documentations, tools, testing equipment, laptop and vehicle in accordance to company procedures and policies and in a professional manner. (Essential)
-Conduct training courses for appropriate College employees. (Essential)
-Provide reports to supervisor. (Essential)
-Follow troubleshooting guidelines and refer to technical/parts manuals, change notices and bulletins, modification notices, etc., in order to diagnose & repair equipment or systems. (Marginal)
-Repair and maintain existing Simplex system and equipment; diagnose trouble in standard electrical systems or equipment. (Essential)
-Troubleshoot several different systems and understand how to split a circuit to effectively troubleshoot ground faults. (Essential)
-Plan, layout, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. (Essential)
-Following and maintaining a highly structured inspection schedule, coordinate on-time inspections and/or installations with police, fire departments, or other appropriate agencies. (Essential)
-Test, calibrate and verify system and peripheral devices (testing to be performed according to all applicable standards and codes. (Essential)
-Verify Fire and Security systems functional performance to ensure proper operations according to College requirements and shop drawings/sequence of operations, etc. (Essential)
-Work with Information Technology Services in correcting software conflicts that arise on College-owned laptops/networks. (Essential)
-Attend training classes when offered. (Essential)
-Perform software uploads at workstations, as needed; backup databases as change to software occur. (Essential)
-Keep supervisor informed of College requirements, system status, and actual, potential or perceived problems. (Essential)
-Make recommendations to supervisor to establish standards and improve processes relative to the security and fire systems. (Essential)
-Participate in the preparation of job plans that cover job costs. (Marginal)
*Standard hand tools of the trade.
*College supplied Laptop and electronic test equipment.
*Exposure to electrical shock.
*May require climbing or working off of ladders and scaffolding.
*Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.

*Will be required to be on 24 hour emergency on-call to respond to emergency service calls.
*Will be required to work some overtime on short notice to include evenings and weekends at the discretion of the Supervisor and with Supervisor’s approval.
*Will be required to use a College vehicle and travel to other campuses and buildings in accordance to College procedures and policies and in a professional manner.
