The General Engineering program in the Davidson College of Engineering offers both the B.S. in General Engineering and the M.S. in Engineering degree. These programs provide students with flexible curriculum that is truly interdisciplinary and not available through the other engineering programs in the college. General Engineering program also provides administrative support for the College of Engineering's writing courses as well as the Introduction to Engineering course taken by all undergraduate students in the College of Engineering. The General Engineering program also offers a minor in Green Engineering and a minor in Applied Computing. The General Engineering program website is at: sjsu.edu/ge
Brief Description of Duties
Lecturers are expected to teach their courses effectively; to maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University Policy; and to cooperate with the department in the peer-review process. Lecturers are strongly encouraged to seek guidance from Department Chair for clarification of University policies and department practices with respect to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, etc.
All Faculty should be organizing their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in the Canvas platform to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their classes. You will have access to this system prior to the semester start date.
Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
- A PhD, Master’s degree or a Bachelor degree with at least 5 years of significant and relevant professional experience in a STEM field is required.
- Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
Salary Range - To commensurate with experience.
