About the College/Unit/DepartmentUniversity Housing’s mission is to provide comfortable, affordable and secure on-campus housing options in residential communities where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported. University Housing operates as a self-supporting auxiliary unit within the Division of Student Affairs. More than 8,000 students live on campus, where University Housing manages more than 2.8 million square feet of space in 22 residence halls, 20 apartment buildings, four Greek Park houses and 18 buildings on UGA’s nearby Health Sciences Campus. The department employs more than 700 staff members to conduct the operations of a comprehensive and integrated student housing organization.

Preferred QualificationsPosition SummaryThe director of facilities is responsible for the leadership, coordination and administration of all functions and staff for facilities management in University Housing operated buildings. Responsibilities for the position include a major leadership role in the implementation of the institution’s Student Housing Comprehensive Plan and shared leadership in the departmental directors’ group.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesSignificant facilities and personnel management experience, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills, and fiscal management and administrative experience are preferred.
Physical Demands•Walk extensively through buildings, walk up stairs, climb ladders, and uneven surfaces.
•Communicate verbally and in writing to a wide constituent group via telephone, computer, and in person.
•Lift and maneuver up to 40 pounds, occasional work/lift overhead.
•Safely operate a GA State vehicle.

Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesStrategic Oversight for Facilities
•Coordinates and administers long range planning for major replacement, repair and renovation projects.
•In partnership with the Executive Director, provides leadership for major renovation, new construction, and redevelopment to accomplish comprehensive student housing and strategic plan goals.
Supervision
•Directly supervises the Associate Directors for Facilities Planning and Maintenance, Associate Director for Facilities Operations, and Administrative Associate.
•Serves on the departmental directors group and management team; Both groups consist of Directors and Associate Directors in Residential Programs and Services and Administrative Services and Communications. Groups focus on strategic and operational aspects of housing, including the physical operation of residence halls and residential buildings.
Student Safety
•Share responsibility with other directors group for safety and security in campus residences with particular focus on facilities, life safety systems and code compliance, security systems, service staff worker safety, and environmental safety.
Administrative
•Develops and administers outside service contracts, i.e., fire safety and pest control.
•Coordinates purchasing of equipment and supplies for physical facilities.
•Serves as the Departmental liaison with the Facilities Management Division and the Environmental Safety Division.
•Represents the Department on various committees and teams.
•Administers the department’s computerized maintenance management system through supervision of associated staff.
•Serves as the Departmental fleet manager.
•Other duties consistent with the purpose of this position, which may be assigned.
