Description:
The Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of population genomics, primate behavior and neuroscience. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Responsibilities may include leading the analysis and interpretation of genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic data from rhesus macaques brain tissues as well as blood, peripheral tissues and microbiome samples.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to design and implement tissue collection protocols and molecular experiments; manage teams of undergraduate/graduate students, post-doctoral trainees, and research assistants; coordinate the data generation and analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic and metabolomic data, at both the single-cell level and from bulk tissue samples; and establish robust and standardized pipelines for the above steps, including efficient and well-organized workflows for scaling up the project to ~1,000 samples per year.
We are seeking someone with a PhD in primate biology, genomics, computational biology, or a related field, and who has strong molecular wet lab and computational skills. Experience with genomics and, in particular, next-generation sequencing data generation and analysis are essential.
