Job Description Summary

The Department of Psychology at Wake Forest University invite applications for a three-year post-doctoral research fellowship beginning in September 2020. We are seeking a thoughtful, detail-oriented, and intellectually motivated individual to play a central role in implementing and disseminating innovative research on how people manifest honesty in daily life. The position is funded by a research grant from the John Templeton Foundation. The candidate will work primarily with Dr. Eranda Jayawickreme but also with Drs. Furr and Fleeson (Psychology). We are seeking applicants with a research program focused on honesty and personality. We are particularly interested in scholars who have strong methodological experience designing, implementing, and analyzing intensive longitudinal studies (e.g. ESM, diary studies etc.). Evidence of strong empirical research and excellent quantitative skills is required, and familiarity with research on honesty, character, personality or related concepts is preferred. The successful candidate will coordinate empirical studies related to honesty as described in funded grant application, assist with research design and assessment, conduct statistical analyses, prepare manuscripts for publication, work with and supervise undergraduate and graduate student researchers, participate in interdisciplinary discussion groups, and be committed to diversity and inclusion as core values. The post-doctoral research fellow will also participate in international conferences on honesty, morality and personality, and have opportunities to develop collaborations with other scholars in the field. This is a three-year contract position.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies and recruits target samples for research studies
  • Coordinates studies (i.e. prepares study applications, determines eligibility of study participants, schedules research activities, and distributes payments).
  • Collects and manages participant data (i.e. prepares survey materials, distributes and collects surveys, manages database, conducts research interviews and focus groups).
  • Maintains accurate, organized, and complete records of research.
  • Compiles and enters data and assists in the completion of research reports.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Assists in providing training, direction, scheduling, and problem-solving support for student assistants.
  • Works cooperatively with other project members, including supervising student assistants.
  • Works under general and specific supervision; reports to Project Co-Leaders
  • Monitors compliance with relevant John Templeton Foundation, US, WFU, and APA regulations.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ph.D. in psychology
  • Evidence of strong empirical research and excellent skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Careful attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize all components of a research study
  • Ability to research and resolve problems associated with the completion of a study
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with character or personality research
  • Interest in character scholarship
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to anticipate mistakes and plan to reduce them
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, SPSS)
  • Knowledge of statistical programs (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R, etc.)

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong methodological experience designing, implementing, and analyzing intensive longitudinal studies (e.g. ESM, diary studies etc.).
  • Experience working with diverse community populations.
