The University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (http://warnell.uga.edu/) and the Wildlife Conservation Section of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) (http://www.gadnr.org) are offering two seasonal positions for winter 2020/2021. The employees will work under a graduate student and DNR employee primarily conducting surveys for bats in caves and culverts throughout Georgia. Duties will include measuring and weighing bats, swabbing bats, collecting environmental conditions data and handling and storing samples. Applicants must be willing to work long days (> 10 hours) under physically challenging conditions (e.g., working in dark, wet and cold conditions). Other activities may include data entry, gear maintenance, bat acoustic call analysis, and other work as needed. Travel to study sites will be by state vehicle and lodging will be provided. Duration is November through April, somewhat flexible depending on availability (limited term of 6-months).

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Applicants must have college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Preference will be given to individuals that have current rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis and have experience with bat handling and bat identification. Experience using a GPS is also preferred.

Physical Demands

Work in a variety of field conditions including crouching and crawling in caves and culverts where encounters with snakes, alligators, biting insects, etc. are possible.
