This position will facilitate research scholarship and extramural funding opportunities involving the two organizations and work collaboratively with TMH and FSU clinicians, research faculty, clinical staff and research administrators across disciplines. The Chief Clinical Research Officer will mentor researchers on strategies for developing meaningful pathways of scientific inquiry and in developing competitive grant applications to obtain research funding. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Lead the development and implementation of a strategic vision and plan for expanding multidisciplinary clinical and translational research and clinical trials involving FSU and TMH faculty and clinician researchers.
•Identify and facilitate opportunities for TMH/FSU clinical research collaborations involving multiple types of funders, including industry, government and private foundation sponsors.
•Develop collaborative programs in clinical, translational and basic research that advance the mutual research agendas of FSU and TMH in order to address identified community health needs in the Big Bend region. These may include, but not be limited to, research involving health services, primary care-based interventions, vulnerable populations/medically underserved areas, implementation/dissemination science or social determinants of health.

•Direct the FSU Office for Clinical Research Advancement in working with the TMH Office of Research to inform faculty and clinician researchers of the resources/expertise provided by these offices to assist researchers in advancing clinical and human subjects research at FSU and TMH.
•Cultivate and maintain external partners and sponsors for collaborative research studies that advance the FSU/TMH research agenda.
•Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with FSU and TMH clinical leaders, research faculty, clinical staff and research administrators.
•Provide guidance and mentorship to researchers -- including faculty, clinicians, residents and medical students – in designing effective research questions and approaches that can be translated into competitive grant applications for extramural funding opportunities.
•Collaborate with FSU and TMH senior leaders, faculty, and research administrators to address and resolve issues involving research policies, procedures, resources and improvement opportunities.
•Track and advise FSU/TMH senior leaders of new and/or revised clinical research trends, developments and regulations at the state, federal and international levels.Qualifications MD, PhD, D.O., MD/PhD or D.O./Ph.D. with a solid record of scholarly achievement in extramural funding and publication in clinical research, preferably including NIH-funded grants and clinical trial management experience.

•Working knowledge of federal regulations for Protection of Human Subjects, 45 CFR 46, 21 CFR 50, HIPAA, HITECH, FDA, Good Clinical Practice and ClinicalTrials.gov.
•Minimum ten years of experience overseeing and conducting large scale or multi-site studies as a Principal Investigator at a university-based medical or public health school, health care institution or other clinical research institution.
•Proven track record of successfully mentoring junior faculty to advance their clinical research careers.
•Experience developing, implementing and improving a research-focused strategic vision for a health care organization or academic institution.
•Leadership experience in fostering and growing clinical research collaborations across multiple disciplines and/or institutions.
•Effective communicator, both oral and written.
•Ability to organize, prioritize and balance short-term and long-term goals.
•Critical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
