Environmental Data Manager
Division/College: University Research (Div)
Employee Category: Exempt
Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per year depending on experience
Full/Part Time: Full Time
This position will operate within the Northwest Knowledge Network (NKN) team at the University of Idaho in collaboration with Boise State University and Idaho State University in support of the National Science Foundation (NSF) EPSCoR RII Track 1 “GEM3” project. The project, “GEM3: Genes by Environment: Modeling, Mechanisms, Mapping”, is an exciting NSF EPSCoR research program seeking to understand how genetic diversity and phenotypic plasticity affect species response to environmental change, shaping both population response and adaptive capacity. Two focal taxa are under study: aquatic redband trout and terrestrial sagebrush. These taxa are integral to ecosystems in the American West and are central to land-use management decisions that drive the economy of the region. This position will work statewide with GEM3 faculty, staff, students and postdocs to ensure that all research data acquired, developed and generated by GEM3 researchers are documented, cataloged, organized, disseminated within the project, and eventually archived and made both discoverable and accessible to other researchers and the general public. This position will develop and communicate a holistic understanding of the statewide GEM3 “data ecosystem”, while developing close partnerships with data sources at the user group, county, state, and federal levels. The position will work collaboratively with all GEM3 participants to ensure researchers adhere to the GEM3 Data Management Plan and Data Sharing Policy. There is some flexibility with where this position may be located within Idaho, but with a strong preference for it to be physically located in Moscow, ID. The project and position are directly funded by the NSF through September 30, 2023 with a possibility of sustaining the position beyond the project.
