Clinical Psychology Adjunct Faculty Position

Saybrook University, a non-profit accredited graduate school using a hybrid distance/residential learning model, seeks to hire Part-time Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Humanistic & Clinical Psychology, within our Clinical Psychology degree program. Applicants are invited to join a distinguished faculty whose accomplishments reflect the quality and academic achievement of our students and graduates. Our faculty are scholar-practitioners and leaders in their fields and professional associations, like the American Psychological Association in many of its divisions. Faculty are excellent teachers, well published scholars and social activists.

The Department of Humanistic and Clinical Psychology houses three degree programs: MA in Psychology, PhD in Psychology, and the PhD in Clinical Psychology. Each of these programs is designed for those students who are genuinely committed to the application of principles in humanistic psychology and to being or becoming change agents in the world. Through disciplined inquiry, didactic and experiential learning our students are dedicated to alleviating human suffering and optimal humane development in local, national and international communities., Saybrook University graduates make significant contributions to knowledge and understanding of human behavior across cultures. They train and work in private industry, government agencies and the public sector to improve human and environmental conditions. .We prepare our PhD Clinical Psychology students to obtain licensure in many states. Our pedagogy includes a rich diverse curriculum with a focus on critical and creative thinking. It combines best practices in hybrid online and residential education. Our students are mature and proficient in the use of advances in technology applied in higher education. We prepare scholar-practitioners to engage the world in the 21st century. The position begins August 1, 2020 and remains open until filled.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsive and timely communication with Program Chair
  • Course Delivery/Development and Syllabus Review/Updating
    • Deliver high quality innovative on-line courses that foster critical and creative thinking
    • Ensure high academic standards and quality aligned with program goals
    • Coordination of course offerings and catalog documentation
    • Potential to design innovative, progressive, and clinically responsive courses
  • Attend a university-wide adjunct faculty meeting per academic year
    • Attend CP degree meeting where possible
  • Residential Conferences
    • Potential for presenting workshops, course introductions, clinical training, and attending meetings

Position Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate in psychology or highest degree for discipline
  • Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist or licensed practitioner in related discipline
  • Previous experience in faculty leadership roles, particularly with regard to curriculum development and working across departments
  • Demonstrated scholarship, clinical practice, and/or accomplishments in the fields of humanistic, existential, multiculturalism, analytical and/or transpersonal psychologies
  • Relevant supervision and teaching experience at the doctoral level (with preference for those with online teaching experience), including supervision of dissertation research
  • Commitment to multicultural and humanistic principles
  • Experience with the application of humanistic, transpersonal, analytical and/or existential psychologies (or related theoretical orientations)
  • Clinical experience with ethnically diverse and/or other special populations
  • Experience teaching child, adolescent, and/or family therapy preferred
