Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty member will assist the Chair in development of clinical content for systems courses, scholarship and research in the department, providing quality patient care and fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary learning. Members of the Department will be expected to participate in teaching in the systems courses, physical exam course, case-based learning sessions, preparation for clerkships, procedural skills training, and OSCE’s. Full time members of the department will also participate in the SHSU practice plan. The individuals should be comfortable working in preclinical and clinical education, as well as evaluation of curriculum and students through various learning and assessment methods. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical and procedural skills. Serves the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM), in the Department Primary Care and Clinical Medicine. The position reports to the Department Chair. The College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently in pre-accreditation status and will begin its inaugural class in August 2020. SHSU is focused on primary care and other specialties identified as a physician workforce shortage in the State of Texas, and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction with clinical learning and an osteopathic emphasis.

Educational Requirements for the Position
The successful candidate will have a DO or MD degree from an accredited college of medicine with residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, current AOA or ABMS board certification and eligibility for, or a current license to practice in Texas.

Experience Required for the Position
A background in medical education is preferred, as is experience in pre-clinical and clinical teaching and well-developed communication skills. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training. Part time applicants will be considered

Other Requirements for the Position
Ability to communicate and work with faculty, medical students, clerkship coordinators, hospital administrators, physician preceptors and college administration. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrates personal initiative and abilities to deal with a rapidly changing environment. Familiar with Learning Management Systems and reporting. Other duties as assigned. *Note: While SHSU main campus is in Huntsville, TX, this position will reside at the Conroe, TX satellite location.
