Assistant Vice President for Student Health - Georgetown University Main Campus

Assistant Vice President for Student Health - Georgetown University Main Campus

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Student Health will be the individual primarily responsible for protecting the health and wellness of Georgetown University students. He/she will oversee the provision of health services, and will provide the main interface between the University and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH). He/she will provide strategic direction to the Vice President for Student Affairs and the University in general as well as to the departments of the University providing health services to students. He/she will be responsible for the fiscal management of those departments, and will prioritize capital spending and new programming.

He/she will act as the liaison between Student Affairs and academic departments, student groups, administration, and the public for issues involving health and wellness on campus. The AVP for Student Health will have direct responsibility for the administrative operations of the Student Health Center specifically, will monitor the clinical care directly provided and supervised by MGUH.

The AVP will report to the Vice President for Student Affairs and be part of the Student Affairs Senior Team. This position will directly supervise the Director of Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), the Director of Health Education Services (including the GERMS ambulance service), and the Director of Student Insurance. Additionally, the AVP will supervise the Student Health Center, and will monitor the clinical care directly provided and supervised by MGUH.

Qualifications
  • Successful candidates will be experienced physicians (MD or DO) eligible for licensure in the District of Columbia.
  • Advanced training in public health is beneficial for this role, but not required.


Preferred qualifications:
  • A doctorate in an area such as Medicine, Public Health, Psychology, Nursing, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of extensive clinical and managerial experience in complex healthcare organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work demands and comfort with a fast-paced environment.
  • Congenial and collaborative working style.
  • Strong capacity for outreach.
  • Familiarity with professional practice and professional organizations in college student health (e.g., ACHA) and/or student affairs (e.g., NASPA) preferred.
