The Department of Biological Sciences is in search of an Instructor to teach courses in the introductory Human Anatomy and Physiology lecture and lab series. The teaching load for this position is 4:4 over the course of 9 months (Fall and Spring semesters). The 4:4 load is equivalent to teaching 12 credit hours each semester. These twelve hours can be any combination of lectures and labs as deemed appropriate by the Department of Biological Sciences.

The start date is August 16, 2020 at a 9-month salary of $42,000. This is an annual appointment that must be renewed each year, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

BIOL 243/BIOL 243L and BIOL 244/244L (Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II and labs, respectively) are undergraduate non-majors’ anatomy and physiology courses designed for health-science majors, (e.g., Nursing, Exercise Science, Public Health, pre-Pharmacy, and Cardiovascular Technology). These courses focus on a variety of concepts ranging from functional anatomy and physiology of the human body, including the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine, excretory, reproductive, digestive, and respiratory systems. The labs that correspond with these lectures reinforce these topics by offering an introduction to the principles of anatomy and physiology as demonstrated by microscopic studies, animal dissections, and physiological experiments.

This Anatomy and Physiology lecture and lab instructor will help manage and develop curriculum for these integral lower-level courses, but will also to help with standardizing the curriculum. As many students enroll in these courses each semester, standardizing the quality of teaching across multiple sections is imperative to maintaining consistency in the classes and promoting the students’ overall success.

The associated job duties for the Anatomy and Physiology instructor are as follows:
•Teach multiple sections of BIOL 243, BIOL 243L, BIOL 244, and/or BIOL 244L in specified semesters as designated by the Department of Biological Sciences.
•Be able to supervise the prep of all assigned laboratory materials for labs each week (setting up weekly lab experiments, preparation of reagents, ordering lab supplies, maintaining proper servicing of specialized equipment used in the lab, maintaining proper storage of preserved specimens for dissection, etc.).
•Assist with the training of Graduate Instructional Assistants (GIAs) who could potentially be assigned teaching positions in these labs on the anatomy and physiology curriculum.

A Background check is required for this position.

Required Education and Experience

Must have a minimum of Master’s Degree in hand at the time of the appointment. Strong organizational skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. is preferred.
